Message from the President of Nourish Japan

For a sustainable society

It is projected that the falling birthrate and ageing population in Japan will continue to affect our society, both socially and economically.
The shrinking domestic market is one of our main concerns.
Today, many businesses have a strong interest in overseas markets and in securing and developing their own sales channels.

 

In contrast, when we look at the global situation, there are considerable challenges, such as food and energy shortages and environmental issues in relation to the population explosion in Africa and Southeast Asia.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), global food demand is expected to increase by 70% by 2050.
In order to satisfy these global needs we will have to find the means to feed 219,000 more people per day.

 

Our advanced knowledge about production technologies and food resources can now come into play. We also believe that by collaborating effectively with global human resources that it is possible to create a sustainable and desirable society for each and every person.

Profile

President of Nourish Japan, LLC.
Ph.D. in psychology, Natural food coordinator, Part-time professor of Matsuyama University

Michiko Izumitani was born in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. At 22 her love of the United States led her to study at The City University of New York. While studying there, she was moved by the words of a classmate devoted to both study and volunteer work: “We always need to be conscious of the role we play in our family, school or workplace and the society we live in.”
After graduation, she became involved in English education and various volunteer activities and local civic actions. She decided that she would like to “foster human resources that fully understand social interdependence, find social challenges and contribute to positive social evolution by cooperating with diverse populations.
Between 2007 and 2013, her time was principally dedicated to planning and sales activities for fair trade products and traditional handicrafts from Ehime in various events, collaborating with volunteers with the objective of conserving cultural traditions that develop pride and confidence among the local people.
In 2007, she started graduate studies to research methods for developing human resources to contribute to society. Since 2008, she has been involved in leadership and cross-cultural studies and teaches psychology mainly at Ehime and Matsuyama Universities. She has already developed and implemented more than 50 leadership study programs worldwide.
In July 2016, she established Nourish Japan LLC. with the goal of creating a sustainable society building on the interaction between practical experience and training.
